On July 14, 2016 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Valentin Rybakov, met with the Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Anthony Lake.
In the course of the meeting, the sides discussed a number of important issues on the Fund’s activity in middle-income countries. The parties noted that UNICEF has a universal mandate, which means that the Fund is to protect the rights of all children in all countries.
V.Rybakov noted that to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of UNICEF Belarus is going to hold in 2016 a series of commemorative events, including a national conference “Child Friendly City” and a film festival on the children's rights.
In his turn, A.Lake noted the constructive and active work of Belarus, as a member of the UNICEF Executive Board.
The parties agreed to maintain contacts to further promote children's interests within the framework of implementation of Agenda 2030.
In the course of the meeting, the sides discussed the perspectives of cooperation in the framework of the United Nations, as well as the status of the selection process in the UN on of the candidate for the post of the next UN Secretary-General.
